SWINE FLU
Conditions on Factory Farms:
Hundreds of PIGS crammed in a factory, each confined into single filthy crates, no larger than their bodies, no room to neither turn nor stretch their legs and worst; they are forced to live in their own excrement. Their living conditions are filthy, unhygienic and inhumane. This is a breeding ground for diseases and virus to mutate. They are frequently fed antibiotics and drugs to fatten them up and to keep them alive in such horrendous living conditions.
Some 6 million pigs are slaughtered annually in Australia.

What is Swine Flu?
ˇA highly contagious respiratory disease caused by influenza type A (H1N1) that infects pigs. Like humans, pigs can get sick.

Where did Swine Flu originated from?
ˇFrom FACTORY FARMS in North Carolina, US. The virus was also found in Mexico Factory Farms which lead to 159 deaths and 2,500 confirmed ill.

What are the symptoms of Swine Flu?
Symptoms are like regular flu and they include:
ˇFever, cough, sore throat, nausea, runny nose, body aches, headache, chills, and fatigue.
ˇMany people with swine flu have had diarrhea and vomiting.

How humans contracted the Swine Flu?
ˇComes from direct and indirect contacts with pigs that carry the virus.

Who can be affected by Swine Flu?
ˇEveryone can be at risk. It can be spread from humans to humans through sneezing or coughing with the virus. Or it can be infected by touching something with the virus on it and then touching the mouth or nose.

Is Swine Flu a Pandemic?
ˇThe World Health Organisation (WHO) stated that swine flu has reached a Pandemic

How many people in Australia are affected by Swine Flu?
ˇThere are over 10,000 confirmed cases of Swine Flu and 23 deaths related to the disease in Australia and the virus is spreading and actual number is higher than accounted for. Victoria is the highest state with
2,067 confirmed cases, including 11 deaths.

What is the global situation?
There are now more than 94,000 confirmed cases and 429 deaths in over 120 countries. The highest numbers are in USA, Mexico, Canada and the UK.

How can I prevent myself from Swine Flu?
Although there is no vaccine available to protect yourself, below are some precautionary measures you can take to avoid it:
1. Avoid all Meat products especially Pork
2. Avoid contact with people with flu-like symptoms
3. Avoid touching surfaces that may be contaminated with the virus
4. Maintain good hygiene by washing your hands regularly with soap and water or  alcohol-based hand wash
5. Maintain good health by exercising, getting lots of sleep, reduce stress and drink plenty of water.
6. Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth.
7. Eat nutritious food, ie, reduce your meat intake and try more vegetarian or vegan food.

Covering your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze and throwing the tissue away after you use it.
